About the Editor
I am Suneet Sharma (he/him) – a charity governance professional with over five years of experience in the sector in England and Wales, previously a junior lawyer.
I currently work as a Governance Consultant at Eastside People, a respected non-profit consultancy, and have worked as Governance and Membership Manager for a major subject association. These dual roles give me a dual lens: the strategic and the operational, the consultancy perspective and the in-house reality.
I have been a trustee of Safe In Our World and It Gets Better UK – both of which grew significantly during my tenure – and have supported Blossom LGBT CIC in a company secretarial capacity. I was also Deputy CEO (Governance, Compliance and Risk) at micro LGBTQIA+ charity Proud Changemakers.
I have secured Charity Commission approval across four engagements, working variously as a trustee, company secretary and governance lead:
- Registration of a Charitable Incorporated Organisation on the association model
- Conversion of a community interest company to a CIO, secured after an initial Commission rejection
- Prior consent for constitutional amendments, following identification of compliance issues in a governing document
- Consent for the appointment of a former Chair to a paid chief executive post, managing conflicts of interest throughout
Across these roles I have helped over five charities build their foundational governance policies, practices and procedures – from risk registers to full governance audits and board effectiveness reviews – as well as keeping day-to-day governance efficient and delivering the best outcomes.
My work has been published by Charity Times, the Association of Chairs, ACEVO, Eastside People, Getting on Board, and Social Sector Support.
