Sharma on Governance brings you candid, practical insights into non-profit governance, risk and responsibility – written by a working practitioner, for the people doing the work. I focus primarily on England and Wales.
Whether you are a governance professional, an aspiring one, a trustee, or a charity leader trying to make governance work for your organisation, you will find something useful here. I welcome guest contributions, comments and engagement – thank you for visiting.
My Values
Accessible Governance should be something everyone can engage with, not the preserve of lawyers and specialists. I make complex information digestible and usable.
Informative & Impactful Good governance is a driver of strategic impact, not a compliance exercise. Everything I publish is insightful and actionable.
Collaborative Good governance develops through working together. I collaborate to build collective knowledge – including through guest contributors and sector partnerships.
Topics I cover
Board dynamics & effectiveness · Charity compliance · Charity finance & reserves · Trustee recruitment · Communications & stakeholder engagement · Decision making · Digital governance & technology risks · Diversity, equity & inclusion in governance · Fundraising governance · Impact measurement & reporting · Legal duties & responsibilities · Risk management · Strategy development & review · Succession planning · Third sector topical issues · Trusteeship & leadership · Volunteer management & governance

About the Editor
I am Suneet Sharma (he/him) – a charity governance professional with over seven years of experience in the sector in England and Wales, previously a junior lawyer.
I currently work as a Governance Consultant at Eastside People, a respected non-profit consultancy, and as Governance and Membership Manager for a major subject association. These dual roles give me a dual lens: the strategic and the operational, the consultancy perspective and the in-house reality.
I have been a trustee of Safe In Our World and It Gets Better UK – both of which grew significantly during my tenure – and have supported Blossom LGBT CIC in a company secretarial capacity. I was also Deputy CEO (Governance, Compliance and Risk) at Proud Changemakers.
Across these roles I have helped over five charities build their foundational governance policies, practices and procedures – from risk registers to full governance audits and board effectiveness reviews.
My work has been published by Charity Times, the Association of Chairs, Eastside People, Getting on Board, and Social Sector Support.
This blog is where I share what I am learning in real time – the frameworks, the judgments, the practical tools, and the honest reflections that institutional guidance rarely captures.
Where scenarios and guidance are included, they are generalised to protect confidentiality and sensitivity.
